Default Rusted Motor mount on a 200O Accord

I have a friend that has a 2000 Accord where the lower rear motor mount has broken away from the frame. I was supprised that it would happen. Has anyone else had this happen? My friend took it to the Honda dealer and the quoted $3500 to repair the car that is only worth $3000. What a joke. Anyway, my son has a 1996 Accord and his motor mount are fine.

Was car a 4-cyl or V6?

V6 probably requires lowering subframe to access mount. However, $3000 sounds way over the top for this job. Suggest getting quotes from several shops specializing in Honda/Acura work.

good luck

The 1998-2002 Accords with a 4cyl engine have had rust problems in the engine cradle. I just replaced both the front and rear halves of the cradle as they were dangerous to drive in there condition. I have a few picts of my old one.
The passenger side where the lower control arm attaches:

Yep. I found this out this afternoon that there is a problem with premature rusting on the left rear part of the engine cradle. The problem is that the AC drain is right over this section of the cradle and it is identifed as the cause becasue it is constantly wet during summer months. In 2003, Honda moved the drain, but neglected to tell people that earlier cars would be effected. Unbelievable. Hell they could have done a cheap fix of just undercoating that area and helped people out but instead that were silent on the subject.

Actually, you can fine a front engine cradle on ebay for $300-400. If I had the care, I would probably DIY.

dealer is not going to put in used parts unless they cannot get new or re-man ones (unlikely)

The front part usually isn't that bad. Its the back half that rots the worst. They both are still available new. Total cost for both is $1600 I think.
