seatbelt retractors slow on 88 Accord 2-door
My '88 Accord DX is running just fine at ~85k miles on the OD. I'd give it a paint job, with an eye to keeping it long term, but one of the unsolved problems is what to do about the slow seat belt retractors.
I'm told this is a chronic problem, especially on the 2-doors. I've tried cleaning out the seatbelt path, but the springs just seem weak. The big downside is the belts invariably get caught when closing the door, and I think every 2-door I've seen has the interior door panel chewed up as a result.
I got a service at the local Honda dealer, who mentioned that there was a lifetime seatbelt warranty. He thought he could get them replaced, but checked and found they were no longer available.
I'll check through another dealer or two, just to make sure I get a consistent story. But I wonder if finding the right person at Honda Corp would help.
Any other solutions you guys can think of? Thanks....Lyle
