Hi, I need to retap holes on the engine block and install threaded inserts. Here is a video of my current situation:


At this point, I can't easily get the engine apart in order to take a closer look at the screws, but they are clearly stripped.

I think these threaded inserts will work, but I need to be sure before I start this project.

How many bolts on the valve cover are behaving like this?

You can try to source a shop manual for your car, but the site I usually recommend goes to 2010 accords. You might have to go on ebay.

Southmainauto on youtube shows stripped valve cover bolts and how he repairs them. If you can get one bolt out of the cylinder head, you can verify the thread size to get the right kit. The helicoil should work, but he typically uses timeserts for this type of repair.

 

Feels like 2 or 3 are like this. I'm afraid to make it worse before i'm ready start the repair.

Thank you for the Southmainauto, I watched his video and it looks like what i need to do.

I havent been able to get any of the bolts/studs out to measure and inspect. I'm guessing it's M6x1 because the nut is 10mm. but no idea what the length is.

I'd like to have everything i need before opening up the engine since this is my daily driver. Is it possible that the studs are *press fit* into the bottom half of the valve cover?

I'm thinking of getting the following:

Also going to want spare gaskets in case they get damaged when i remove the existing studs.

 

You may not have a problem based on your video. Keep trying to loosen until the hex top of the bolt until it becomes wobbly. Since you couldn't pry the bolt up, you almost have to have threads in there.

The studs have a collar above the threads that you have to push through the grommet in that metal washer on the valve cover in your video. They are a tight fit, so they don't easily pull out from the valve cover. You would remove the valve cover and the bolts will remain. Google 2012 accord valve cover bolt to see what it looks like. Hope that makes sense.
