shift lock

RE: shift lock
This problem can have several possible causes.
First, check whether your brake lights are working. If brake light switch is sticking open, no brake lights and shift-lock will not work since the brake circuit is open. Try lubing w/ WD40 if it's sticking open.
Second, ignition switch has a similar circuit that will disable the shift-lock. In this case you should not hear the shift-lock solenoid in the console (all quiet).
Third, if you hear the shift-lock solenoid stroking and the shifter remains disabled, the solenoid is misadjusted. Console must be removed and solenoid position adjusted per manual. See Online Manuals in DIY section.
Fourth, the shift-lock solenoid could be defective and not moving. In this case you also won't hear the solenoid, but voltage would be present at the solenoid. You'll have to pull the console to check whether this or 2nd possibility is the problem.
Fifth, you could have a faulty interlock control module (not very likelybut possible). It's conveniently located high up under the dash panel above the under-dash fuse box.
Sixth, (will this ever end!) the shift position console switch may be faulty prevnting the circuit from closing. If other checks fail, this would be checked by looking for voltage to solenoid, and verifying the solenoid is functional w/ 12V jumpered to the solenoid.
There are good diagnositics in the Honda shop manuals available for download. Any model 90-93 should be same.
good luck
