Default Shocks and Spring Recommendations for 2006 Accord V6

Happy New Year all!

I have a 2006 Accord EX V6 which has about 118K miles on it. It's time to replace the shock and springs. What kind of shock and springs do you guys recommend that's comes close to factory, if not better?

Also, the car is used as a family car, wife drives it during the week to drop off the kids, grocery, etc..

Thank you.

What makes you think the shocks and springs are due for a replacement? FWIW, the factory springs and shocks are still going strong on my 2001 Accord EX V6; and it is by far the norm for those components to last an easy quarter of a million miles or more.

Well, the reason why is because the driver side rear shock is defective/leaking and it's now making a knocking sound when driving. I took it to Honda, and they confirmed that. Do you think I should just replace that one or replace all four?

Yup, "Leaking = Replace" in my book.

I would do just the rear two shocks; the front struts should be good to go for many-many years yet.

People get very opinionated on suspension brands. These people also drive their vehicle like it is a race car.

If the cost is reasonable, I try to stick with OEM parts, especially since this is a daily driver.

Check out the OEM price for the shock/spring assembly on a site like hondapartsnow.com. Monroe sells assemblies too, I think they are called quick struts.

Thank you PAhonda! I agree, I want to keep it OEM being that it's a daily driver. Do you think I should go with Monroe's or KYB's? Also, do you recommend any spring brands that keep the OEM height? Not looking for any special lowering springs.

Thanks!

Monroe is a pretty safe bet to keep the OEM ride quality and height; that said, if you can find OEM Honda parts for a similar price, I'd go with those if for no other reason than they seem to have a very long lifespan.

Quick-Struts (or whatever they're called) include the shock together with the spring installed around it. Check that out, it makes installation a lot easier if you don't have to deal with compressing the spring into place. Having a spring come loose during installation can do some damage (especially if it hits you instead of the car).

Awesome info! Thanks! I'll do a price comparison with the Monroe's and OEM. If I do go with the Monroe's, is there a special model I should look into? I remember they had the Sense-Trac but I'm sure they have newer/different models now.
