should a vacuum hose or something be here?
helping out friend w/ 92 accord LX by taking his car to get a new catalytic converter tomorrow because it's not passing emissions, and the shop told him the cat was the prob. Car doesn't have any of the symptoms I've experienced with bad cats, but what do I know.
Whilst replacing the coolant overflow hose for him I noticed a protrusion out of the valve cover that looks like it should have a vacuum hose or something, anything, attached. Does anyone know what this is??:
Pic is from the passenger side. Front of vehicle is to the right.
Many thanks!

If that thing is spewing oil into the intake (or into the engine compartment...) then check your PCV valve (#2 in PA's picture). Clogged PCV valve will send excess air out through that vent, carrying oil with it.
