Default Are spark plug gaskets glued in???

I got a bit of a problem. I decided to paint my valve cover and of course I knew that I was going to need a new valve cover gasket after I took the cover off. Well when I purchased the valve cover gasket it came with gaskets to put on the underneath side of the valve cover in where the spark plug wires go down through. These ring-like gaskets seemed to be pretty easy to install so when I delegated the taskof removing the old ones and installing the new ones,he broke one and when I tried to get the rest of it out it would not budge. almost like it was glued or cemented in. How do I get that old one out so I can replace it with the new one??the car is an Automatic1998 Honda Accord 2.3L ULEV-VTEC (california model). Please help!!
