Default Spool valve leak

Hey guys,

i have a dilemma. I have a spool valve assembly I had leaking. I bought gaskets on amazon that I had issues with, so I opted to get a new Honda assembly and use the gaskets from that unit. In installing it, I overtorqued the rear nut. I drilled it out with some help, and got the part on. In the city, and at idle, I have no leak, but at highway speeds, I am leaking. Two of the three bolts are snug and won’t tighten without force, the other though that is pictured moves easier. Could it be I got oil where it was? I made a mess when I initially over torqued the nut. I want to tighten it to stop the leaking, but am afraid to over torque. Any suggestions?

Did you intend to attach a picture? There is not attachment on this post.

No pic, but your torque should be 8.7lb or 12nM. If you don't have a torque wrench use an 1/4 wrench and snug the bolt then 1/4 turn. I don't like giving those instructions because snug can mean different things to other people.

the thing is, I am afraid to continue turning the one bolt. It seems to have slack, and I’m afraid to over torque it again. I’m gonna raise it out, clean the site for the bolt, then snug it up. I’ll be careful

Were you able to all of the remains of the snapped bolt out? Or did you have drill it out and re-tap it? Just asking, as you might want to think about adding a helicoil to that hole so you can torque it to the proper spec.

the bolt I over torqued was removed and the new bolt is actually in the spool valve snug. It’s a different bolt hole. I think I will need a helicoil. Is that difficult?

It's not hard, but it requires the correct size drill bit, and tap for the helicoil, along with the helicoil install tool.

Drill, tap, & tool come with the HeliCoil "kit". Don't buy the "refill" because that only has extra coils.

Good point. Some of the better kits include the drill bit and tap along with the tool. A friend of mine bought such a kit last year at a garage sale. Very nice little kit.
