You're in luck...the 97 models uses the Service Check Connector for the SRS code.
Jumper the BLUE 2 pin connector located behind/under the glove box.
Turn on the key and watch for the SRS light to flash.
the light will flash the 'main' code pause and then 'sub' code.
Example; long flash, long flash, pause, short flash. That is a code 2-1

The diagnostic procedure is a bit detailed to type out. The Online Manuals thread in the DIY section has links with sites that have a 94 shop manual. That manual is almost identical to the 97 accord.

The diagnostics are a bit involved. If you don't feel comfortable doing the procedure, you should take it to a dealership to get diagnosed.

The most likely fault is the 'spool reel' in the steering column.
Have you had problems with cruise control or horn not working?
You will need the procedure from the manual to check this.
BE SURE TO DIS-CONNECT THE BATTERY before working on that SRS system

changed the cable reel and that solved the issue. The horn and cruise control work now. I also reset the SRS light and its gone now . No SRS or CEL lights any more. Back to normal
