Default SRS Unit Interchangeability

My SRS light has been on for as long as I've owned my car. At first it was a 5-2, I replaced the unit with one from ebay. The code switched to a 1-3, I changed the drivers airbag and nothing happened. I suspect the unit I got on ebay wasn't good.

I have a bunch of SRS units from the junk yard but none of them match my exact unit. The plug, however, is the same.

Question is... Should I attempt to plug in one of the other units?!?

My original unit was a 77960-SV4-308

One replacement is a 77960-SV4-A90

The other is a 77960-SV4-A92

So I swapped in the 77960-SV4-A92 and now its giving me a 10-1.

If I try to clear the codes, instead of blinking twice it just blinks indefinitely.

Car-part.com shows only the 1995 as a donor. Check ebay which also has a cross-reference system but pretty flaky IMV. Anything but a 1996 or 1997 would be unlikely to work. I don't know any way to be sure.

If you haven't seen it, check this site. http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=636707

good luck

SRS units have to be changed "like for like" your original one is a "DE" manufactured one. There is a service bulletin on these as well. And besides all that, using a junkyard SRS unit is not the best idea either... my .02

I worried I would need the same one.

Its strange that Honda made so many and even stranger that they made one harness fit many of them.

I noticed that...

The original was Densigiken and the replacement was NEC.

Now for the interesting part... I just swapped the 77960-SV4-A92 for another 77960-SV4-A92 that I had (also junk yard). The light is now off... interesting, no?

not really, no guarantees the system will function properly in a crash...

this might just be me, but i won't use parts for safety systems that may have been compromised...the impact sensor for this system is contained withing that SRS unit and if it is damaged in anyway the bags may not go off or go off the next big bump you hit...BMW's had a similar problem with their modules.
