Default starter buzzing?

If I turn my key on 99% of the way, the car will make this buzzing sound. Similar to a bad solenoid but not as loud.

To fix the problem you just turn it a little bit farther and the car starts.

Is this a starter problem?
One guy told me it might be a bad relay.

Is this going to be a problem for me in the future or do I just need to fully turn the key and not worry about it.

Thank you for considering this question

Until "it" goes all the way out, hard to call. "IT" could be a number of things - electrical part of the ign switch, starter, low battery, ect.

On the 7th generation Accord, the buzzing sound is from the starter cut relay. However, usually the issue is due to the contacts in the ignition switch (the electrical switch).

Replacement of the ignition switch is relatively fast and inexpensive.

I thought starter cut relay w/ this sound ( a high pitched squeal from behind gauge panel in my case). I replaced starter cut relay w/ no change. This was 2010 Acura TSX.

It may be inherent to the starter cut relay when low voltage (high resistance in the ignition switch contacts) is provided to relay drive circuit resulting in rapid oscillation of relay contacts.

In my case it was very intermittent and seemed more frequent in cold weather (< 40F). It has not been heard recently.

good luck

I actually had this issue with my 2009 Accord last year. I had a few no starts with just the starter cut relay buzzing. This usually happened after the car was previously driven the same day. It would start on the second turn of the ignition. It happened several times over a period of a week. I replaced the ignition switch and the issue was resolved immediately.

I took apart the switch to examine the contacts which did not look abnormal though.
