Default Starting Issues....Sometimes

I have a 2007 Honda Accord ex 2.4 liter with 80,000 miles, which I love this car very reliable and I hope to keep this car as long as it runs. One odd problem I noticed with the car at times is when I turn the key, it won't even attempt to turn over, and turn the key a second time and it will ALWAYS start on the second turn. Doesn't matter if it's warm, or cold, seems to happen more frequently if the car has been sitting for awhile. My concern is I don't want to get stranded with the car somewhere so ideally I would like to know if anyone else has had this type of problem before, and if so what was it?

My car has done this only three times in two years, but I've found that if I put the shift lever in neutral it will start right up. I assume it's the transmission range switch causing the problem, but it happens so in frequently I haven't been able to test it. Next time it happens, try to start it in neutral (with your foot on the brake pedal).

Can't hurt to clean the battery cables and have the battery tested.

I've had the battery tested it's completely fine, and it always starts on the second try. Even though it starts every time on the second try I'm just paranoid I'm going to try and start it one day and it won't start. I wasn't sure if this was symptomatic with a problem with the starter?

If you hear the starter "click" loudly but no turn-over, then new starter is indicated.

If absolute silence when key is turned to Start, then problem may be an intermittent ignition switch assy.

good luck
