Default RE: Starting problems after car is warm

I back in town and hope run some test on my car. I do have a question on the TW sensor. Is this the same sensor that sends reading to temp guage in the vehicle?

Thanks

I finally got around doing some work on my car. I did find the fuel pump was weak and also found the one of the wires that connected to the TW sensor was broken. I replaced both and that fixed my starting problem after engine was warm.

I am still tring to figure out why I have a slight hesitation when I first start off. It acts like is wants to cut out then picks up and runs ok.Any idea?

Thaks again for everyone input n earlier issue.

To try to find the hesitation problem, check to see that the diaphram on the dist. is holding vacum.
One diaphram is cold start advance the other is 'normal' running advance.

Also when the dist cap is off you should be able to twist the dist. shaft[10-15 degrees]and it springs back in place.
That dist has mechanical advance/ spring loaded weights.
A shaft inside the shaft turns to allow the weights to advance the timing.

Default Same issue

Having exact same issue. I had a buddy replace spark plugs and wires for me after buying this car 3 days ago and went to start and very slow start; had to keep turning over and eventually it would. Had no issue with start until i changed the plugs. Replaced fuel filter; no change. Noticed that if car is left sitting it starts up pretty quick (not perfect but nearly) but if engine is hot it takes awhile. Check engine light also came on after plugs. The first couple seconds its on it stutters and stammers a lil, but Runs perfect otherwise.

I spent all my money on buying car and have limited funds now; i already spent $20 on the filter but dont wanna buy the engine temp coolant sensor and have it not be the issue either.

He checked all plugs and each had spark & all is fine there. He also replaced head gasket valve cover to fix oil leak and The etcs is located on the side of that, so he did have to move it around in order to replace the gasket. Could this have made it go out?

Could have.....get the code. The ecu is under the drivers seat, from behind the seat you should see a "plastic" box, to the right is a "window" you can open - pull from the top. Once open, turn the key to "on" - count the blinks. They will repeat after a pause.

Get the trouble code like poorman212 suggested.

The problem could be the igniter (inside distributor), main relay, etc.

See this regarding ignition problem, the same link has various sections and tabs with more info. on other things like the main relay repair or replacement, and location on your car, etc.:

Went ahead and replaced engine coolant temp sensor; check engine light disappeared; problem immediately fixed.
