Default Starting Troubles

1991 Honda Accord Lx 5spd Manual
To jump into it the car wasn't firing due to leaks in the spark plug valve tube seals and the valve cover gasket, which was depriving the spark plugs a spark do to oil in the spark plug wells. So, I replaced those gaskets, as well as my spark plug wires which fixed the problem. Then I was doing some more maintenance on the engine compartment and saw the unit shown in the attachment below which had its wires exposed so I disconnected them and reconnect them properly and now the car will not fire again. Turns over so it cant be the starter. Just wanted to get some insight on the piece shown below. Or any other suggestions that you may have. Thanks.

Welcome to HAF

I have moved this to general tech.

I'm forgetting more and more as I get older. Can you take another pic a bit further out and circle the area of where the first pic is. Looks like something on the trans but again I can't place it right off hand.

It's right under the distributor. It could either be tranny like you said, or maybe connected to the starter somehow? It is connected to another big bundle of wires going toward main relay perhaps?

Ok that helps, thanks.

And I sure you put the coil wire back on the pic was just a ref.

Last, when "playing under there" did you have the battery removed or not?

Haha Yeah, when I was changing out the tube seals and valve cover gasket it was off.
The thing that was confusing is it started up fine after I got that project all finished up. Just after I disconnected those wires it seemed to not fire.. Does anyone happen to know what that sensor-looking thing is?

That probably is a broken off back-up light switch, as the switch wires are yellow and grn/blk. But, that shouldn't be the cause of your starting troubles.

That is the backup switch. However even if the wires going to it touched ground it won't cause the car not to start unless the fuse didn't blow and caused other damage.

It's a 10a fuse located in the driver side fuse kick panel in the bottom left corner.

Thanks. To be more informative it sounds like it isn't getting any spark then which wouldn't make sense due to new plugs (NGK) and plug wires(performance).

Double-check the firing order?

Got a timing light? Use it to check for good spark...
