Default It starts when it wants to

Ok....a few months ago, while at the gas station, I tried to start my car. Everything came on (dash lit up, radio came on) but the car wouldnt start. There was no clicking when i turned the key, just silence. I waited a few minutes, started it again, it started right up.

Today, same thing. I had the starter replaced a few years ago. Could it be that the starter is going bad again....or could it be something else

Any help is appreciated

Auto trans?
Check the shift interlock.

Manual trans?
Check the clutch switch.

Either way, it might be flaky connections (corrosion, loose, ??) at the battery cables - both ends.

Caveman test for the starter...
While someone holds the key at "START" position, hit the starter with a broom handle. If that makes it run, it's a bad starter.

It’s a solenoid that is connected to the shifter. You have to pop the console around the shifter. This went bad on my cb and I just removed it totally. With the key in the on poss. can you move the shifter out of park? If not then it's the shifter interlock solenoid. Easy fix personally I'd just remove it if you can. I'm not sure if you have to have it on the newer accords but on the older ones you can just delete it and be done with it.

I will try that in the morning. If it is the solenoid, would just removing it do any damage?? Or should I replace the part???

G22, you're describing the interlock that prevents you from shifting out of PARK unless you're standing on the brake.

There's another interlock in the other direction. This one prevents you from starting the engine when it's in gear. It's only supposed to allow the starter to run when the transmission is in PARK or NEUTRAL. If the lamps in the cluster don't accurately represent what gear it's in, then you should check that out.
