Default Strange fuel gauge behavior !

Hi,

I have an accord 1996 EX sedan.
Tonight I just notice a strange behavior of my fuel gauge. the tank is 25% full.
When I am idling at the red light, the gauge lowered a little bit, maybe 2-3 millimeters.
When I am driving at constant speed, the gauge return to its position.

so when I am rolling the gauge goes up and when I am idling itgoes down by 2-3 millimiters.

Is that normal or my fuel gauge need to be changed ?

Thanks

That's actually the exact same behavior on my car, same year and trim.
I think this is due to the float moving around in your tank. So when you stop, the gas shlushes (technical term here!) to the front of the gas tank, so the rear mounted float goes down a bit. You may notice that it looks like you have more gas than you do if you're parked on an incline as well.
This is how it works on my car at least, someone will have to back me up here if this isn't correct behavior for the part, but I believe it's just an inaccuracy due to it being a float in the tank.

Good luck!

Its normal for your car to do that, the fuel is moving and depending on how much fuel is under the float is what the gauge will read.
