Default Struts/Shocks whats the difference???

I'm a novice at working on my Accord but I'm pretty much up for any challenge. I've done the routine stuff and gone so far as to changing my front brake rotors.

The dealer said I need new struts because my right front one is leaking. Is a strut the same as a shock? And is it feasible for a DIY job for a weekend car person? And how do you do it?

Thanks for any help!!!!

for ease of explination in this situation the front is struts and the rear is shocks..... To do it yourself you need to rent or borrow a pair of spring compressors and then you can do it pretty easily with a manual.... rent or borrow them from your local auto parts store.... and if you're going to do one I'd suggest doing the other at the same time... Click on the link below and see if they have a manual for your car (they're free)

Bear with me here. A "strut" is just a shock absorber in the front?

I have the Haynes Repair Manual, which seems to be pretty good for me.
