Angry Stuck Head Bolt F22 VTEC

Got the engine out of the car and am now trying to remove the head so that I can inspect block and cylinder head. I got the number one loosened (just to break loose) as specified in the manual. But number two would not budge, unbelievably. The manual states install torque of 79 ft-lbs. so I wasn't expecting trouble. But this MF is stuck big time. Tried breaker bar, 1/2 in. drive impact, NADA. Actually broke the socket trying to remove. I think it spun out too so now I have the prospect of having to grind out the damn thing. Has anybody out there had so much trouble loosening head bolts on this engine?

You are not the first one.

Are/were you using an impact socket? If not, get one for the rest of them.

Now for the one that "might" be rounded....got any pic's?

Go to home depot/lowes, get a 8ft steel pipe that will fit over your breaker bar. Best investment I ever made. Never not been able to get a bolt loose with that.

Sure for a crank pulley bolt on a Honda 4cyl I had to jump on the 8ft pipe on the breaker bar, but it did come loose.

^X2.....over time I have ended up with a few different lengths of pipe to fit "a job"

I prefer using a 1/2 impact gun with a new high grade 6pt socket. Just run them out. Follow the torquing procedure properly when reinstalling.
