Default Suspension Nightmare 2016 Accord Touring

Hello,

I am interested if anyone else has experienced these problems.
I have a brand new 2016 Accord Touring. Starting from about 1k miles I began to notice a clunking noise when going over bumps. I have gone back to the dealer 5x now for the same problem. So far, both struts, the front rack, several adjustments and tightenings of bolts and now most recently the entire subframe has been replaced. After each repair, I Was truly hoping to have my 'dream' car back, which has turned into a 'nightmare!'

I am extremely disappointed with the quality of this vehicle. Most recently, the mechanic explained to me that the new subframes are no longer one piece and have an aluminum bracket holding them together which are GLUED, not welded. He claims the subframe glue that holds the subframe together came undone. Even he was baffled by the fact that they are gluing the subframes together, simply to make the vehicles lighter and more fuel efficient?

Regardless, I now have a brand new vehicle with many repairs and parts replacements. To my dismay, Honda refuses to buy the car back or really offer anything other than $1000 for my time.

I am not yet sure if this subframe replacement has even fixed the problem as I just picked the car up.

Honda would rather litigate this as a lemon law case than make a loyal customer of 8 years and 5 previous Hondas happy.

I am not a litigious person but Shame on you Honda! You will be hearing from my attorney!

Sorry to hear of the issue you are having.

I have a 2016 Pilot that if you read some of the forums you would never buy based upon some of the issues reported.

I too am a long term Honda fan, my 2016 Pilot has had minor issues and nothing like some of the stories online.

However, there is a point where something has to be done. Check the laws where you live, some states only give them like 3 or 4 "tries" to repair the issue before the lemon law can be applied.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

My 2015 makes thudding sounds over all bumps since day one. I now have 13K on it and thought that this was just the way the suspension was. I am now suspect of my struts and will be calling the dealer. Does anyone have any suggestions on how the communication should go so I don't get the "brush off" or taken for a ride? I have always thought the suspension was super-soft and not at all performed like it should. accordtouringnightmare, thanks for posting about your situation and good luck!

Good Luck! Make sure they check the subframe!!!! Be sure they document everything you tell them in the service paperwork. Dont take no for an answer. If you have to, insist on riding with the technician so he hears it with you in the car.

The car should not Thud or clunk over bumps!!!!

Smile I thought I had a suspension noise problem too.

I purchased a brand new 2016 EX-L. There were weird and frightening thumping noises coming from the back of the car whenever I drove it over rough pavement or a bump in the road. This happened on local roads as well as the highway (I live in Northern California). It was difficult to diagnose what was causing the problem. I thought of and looked at the rear suspension, the rear speakers, the rear end, the rear seat, the exhaust system, the gas tank, the frame, the CVT, the interior of the trunk, the rear windows and finally gave up. The only time I drove the car was on weekends when I was attempting another diagnostic test drive. I have a second car I could use so there was no big hurry on curing the issue. I’d had the car six weeks and put less than 100 miles on it. I had a few spare hours on a Tuesday morning and decided to bring it back to the dealer and let them figure it out. I wanted to drop it off and head back to work. The service manager stated that no one else had come in with this issue. I told him he could keep the car as long as he wanted because I was not driving it in this condition anyway. They checked me in and said that I would need to test drive it with the “noise specialist”. I went out with one of the service techs, he agreed there was an easy to discern thumping noise coming from the rear of the car. He drove it approximately 10 miles on a country lane (plenty of rough pavement), he says, “I want to look at something.” and pulls over to the side of the road. He opens the trunk, works for a couple of minutes and calls me over. He points to two thin torsion springs that he has clipped into a small plastic clip in the middle of the trunk just on the inside of where the trunk lid closes. I had looked at these torsion springs but they are so thin I thought they were fat speaker wires and did not bother to trace where they came from or where they went to. I could not see the plastic clip that they should clip into until the tech pointed to it. The springs had not been clipped into place at the factory and were bouncing around and loudly banging against the inside of trunk when I drove the car.
Anyway; the noise problem is resolved to my complete satisfaction and I am quite happy with my new Accord. I’ve been driving the car on daily basis for the past 4 weeks and now have just over a thousand miles on it.

That is good advice, I always... always ride with the tech.. or drive and let him ride, and I don't care if we have to ride around for an hour.. I want him to hear/feel exactly what I already know is going on

I learned a lesson a while back, at the time our car had a sensing device installed by my auto insurance company, after I got home from a service appointment at the dealership, I checked the report on my PC and found that the tech had slammed-on the brakes 20 times in less than 15 minutes... my insurance company was not happy, I was not happy and I let the dealership know what had taken place... the tech was fired.
