Hi. Newb here. I'm on oldy on a Miata forum. I posted on there problems I'm having with the wife's 2000 Accord EX automatic transmission. We are now on the 3rd tranny with only 68K miles on car. Many posters on Miata forumsaid it's a known problem. Thought I'd post here and see if you confirm. Also, has the problem been corrected with later models? TIA.
yeah for the 00-01 honda accord models they had a tranmission recall. the tranmission is garbage. but hey i been on my second already also. but if your transmission breaks again there something called a lemon law where they would buy your car from you for the whole value. but thats only if you have like 3 messed up tannys on one car.. but someone please correct me if i am wrong. thats what i heard from someone.
To put it mildly; You couldn't chase me fast enough to give me the keys and tiltle to a 98-02 Accord w/auto.
Those tapered differential bearings were a big mistake
The 03+ is a much better unit.
When the bearings look like this the entire trans is contaminated and has to come completely apart for cleaning.

And exactly what are the symptoms of differential bearings like those? Do they whine? My Accord is so noisey I can't stand it, I have been blaming it on the tires, I wonder if this is my problem.
i honestly dont see the problem with the 2000 auto trans for 4 cylinders. I got 150,000 on mine and only chnage the oil twice. It runs great and nothing is wrong with it. But for the 6 cylinders i can agree. My bros transmission is horrible. Were just wating for it to die.
If I remeber right the place for info on the class action suit on those is to either contact honda of america or www.hondatramissionsettlement.com (I think....you may want to search the forum to find it for sure) The lemon law is going to be a state to state law, each one differs but there is some form of it everywhere... Didn't any of the tranny places warranty their work/product?
those bearings were bad enough to let the differential shift so farthe inner CV seals were leaking at the differential; another thing will be at low speed,10 mph, let off the gas and you canhear the differential ring geargrowl as it shifts on the pinion.
