Default Timing Belt or Serpentine Belt

My 2003 Honda Accord Ex (4 cylinder) has 125,000 miles on it. It's about time I replace my car's timing belt so I called my Pop whose buddy is a mechanic out in California. I told him I wanted to buy my own parts and take it to a mechanic in Texas to have them install them. He suggested I purchase a Gates timing installation kit with a water pump (they're down there anyway, they might as well replace the pump while they're at it, right?).

So anyway, Im searching on several different auto parts websites online, and when I punch in my specs or VIN, no TIMING belts come up, but SERPENTINE belts do.

My question is - do I need a timing belt or a serpentine belt for my 2003 Honda Accord Ex? And can anyone recommend a good place online or in person to find Gates timing kits?

Thanks for your help!

Your car has a k24a4 engine, it does not have a timing belt it has a timing chain. The timing chain should last the life of the engine and never need to be replaced.

The serpentine belt is the external belt that drives the alternator & stuff. Pretty easy to replace. Starting with 2003 4-cyl, that external belt drives the waterpump.

So for many years we've told people it's OK to run without the external drive belts, but not any more with the K-series engines.
