Default Timing Chain vs. Belt

My new 07 Coupe with 2.4 i-vtec has a timing chain. Should this last the life of the engine? How can the tensioners/rollers, etc be checked? Would you recommend opening up the engine every 60K as on a timing belt, and checking, or maybe even replacing the timing chain and tensioners?

Thanks!

It should last the life of the engine. Some Saab friends have 250k or 300k miles on chains. By that mileage you should have some kind of excuse to open the valve cover. You can inspect it for wear.

The chain 'stretches' by it's pivot pins getting sloppy. You could probably check that by trying to lift a link off the sprocket at the top.

timing chains are definetly life of the engine, metal definelty lasts longer than steel reinfoced rubber.
