Default Timing hel

Firstly i apologize for not looking through previous posts but time is a factor here. So far i have all my ticks lined up except for the rear balancer, as i couldnt find the alignment tick on the block. with it being this way i removed the bolt behind it and insertrd a screwdriver into the hole and turned until the screwdriver could be fully inserted. only problem is were it stopped i dont see anything that lines up with the mark on the pulley, so is it still the right position or....? im driving a 99 accord lx 4 cyl, amd this is my first time doing a timing job on a honda

There should be a mark on one tooth of that pulley, and looking at the pulley, the mark on the block should be around 5 o'clock. I don't think the mark is obvious.

Regardless, you have the balance shaft lined up, since you inserted that bolt, so that balance shaft is lined up properly. I think that is geared where one spin of the gear is not one spin of the balance shaft.

I don't care how many times i read honda saying a bolt should be able to go in one way and lock it. I got a bolt with the exact specs and i was still able to fit it in four different positions.

Not sure about your engine but on mines I was able to see a mark at 11 o'clock position on the pulley and on the block that seemed to line up. Again, your engine is completely different but you might be able to see the marks as either I or PAhonda stated there could be marks.

When it locks with the bolt or screwdriver its in the 8 o clock position, and ive been setting the timing on all of them individually.

The marks on the rear balancer sprocket are confusing because there's a gear set from that sprocket to the actual balance shaft. The pin inserted into the back of the block WILL hold the shaft at the proper position. And YES, that can happen at different positions of the sprocket. The sprocket doesn't matter if you're using the bolt/pin.

thanks you all for the advice, one more queation before i slap this sucker together, and i apologize agaon if im getting aggravating with this; once the screwdriver is fully inserted theres still a bit of wiggle to it, about 2 teeths worth, should i align it fully down or up? also this is an automatic honda.

With that much wiggle, I'd look for a larger pin to stick in there. Allen wrench? Drill bit?

Below the "reply" window, there's a button saying "Go Advanced" - click it.

Then there's a place where it says "manage attachments". That opens a little popup window where you can browse to the photo then upload it. You might have to reduce the resolution because there's size limits for the files.
