transmission

The 94 transmission should work.
The 94/95 ATs are the same, and the 96/97 automatic transmissions are the same. I don't know specifically what the specific difference is between the two transmissions. The 94/95 were OBD1 and the 96/97 were OBD2. For the engines, some sensors in the distributor were moved to the engine block.
I don't know if anything really changed on the transmissions when Honda went from OBD1 to OBD2.

The one site that will probably give you a better answer is hondaswap.com. I have found useful information there. They are likely to know the differences between those transmissions. It is probably subtle, like on the engine block.
If you find out what the difference is (if any), please post it on here, so others can find out the difference(s) on this site.

Car-part.com only lists the 94 as a donor, and not the 96 or 97. There interchange info has been pretty good on other components I've checked.
You can check Honda parts, and see if parts numbers changed from 95 to 96 and 97. Unless someone knows for sure, I would try to find a 94 or 95 trans.
good luck
