Tranny fluid is oil in a 5mt. Mine was leaking and was told it leaked so when it stopped marking its spot i filled it back up through the side plug. A little to late though the other night 5th gear popped and was gone. I managed to get back home and everything sounded and shifted fine so i took it to work. At a light it popped and i heard nothing but grinding and metal flying. btw the only tranny that would work on it was a 5mt from a 86-89 accord fi. I can't believe you can't use another like the carb version?? Oh well it is ripped apart and i found one for 175 at a yard. Now i am wrestling with do i replace clutch and pressure plate? I'm thinking yes due to 265,000 miles. Clutch would act up before like double clutching etc. but i'm not sure if this would have been due to tranny fixing to go. Sorry for hijack 86 accord lxi 5mt Kent

No. For a 2002, you should use Honda MTF. Closest thing is 10w-30 engine oil. But for as long as it lasts in a manual tranny, Id use actual Honda fluid.

Stress cracks?? If they are talking about actual cracks in the aluminum tranny case, then oil additives should not help. Those additiveswork by causing rubber seals to swell up,making thempress tighter against, say, the axle shaft or whatever.

Unhappy SLOW LEAK...Me too!

I recently had a 60 point check and found that I too have a transmission leak, it doesn't hit the ground, just spreads out on the undercarriage. I looked up the service records of the previous owner at his Honda dealer.... SoCal

On 12/15/09 they added dye][B] traced to and resealed trans PSI Test Plug....

Can anyone tell me what that is, is it a fancy word for the drain plug... secret Honda code?

There are "test ports" for checking the pressure. I can't find my CD version of the sevice manual for this gen to give the exact location but from your description it doesn't sound the same....How much is leaking? Have you narrowed down the side...
