Default Trip Computers Mismatch

I have a 2007 Honda Accord with Navi. Along with the navigation system, Honda also offers a trip computer within the navigation system. I have the navigation trip computer set to reset whenever I refuel. Along with this resetting, I also make sure to reset my trip computer in the odometer before my car moves an inch. You would now think that both systems would record the same mileage, but unfortunately it doesn't. For the first 10 miles both systems show exact mileage, however, slowly by a tenth of a mile the systems slowly offset from each other until they are miles apart. Does anyone know if this is supposed to be like this or if both systems should always match? What can I do to have this fixed? Thanks.

GPS navigation isn't as accurate as an odometer. GPS systems work great but unless I'm mistaken they are still only good to within about 10 meters (30 feet or so...). Your odometer can also be off depending on the size and wear patterns on your tires. I'd trust the odometer over the GPS system but there is no way that I know of to get the two to match.

Yea gps tracks from space and the odometer tracs from 3 feet away. Also there is more than one satalite tracking your movement. They use triangulation to find your position on the earth. Each system is different, but my garmin system is off by 19 feet. Everytime i go to get on the L.I.E (Major highway on LI) and stay in the right lane my gps thinks i havent gotten on to the expressway, so i have to jump over a lane for it to reckognize what road im on.

So in closing, trust the odometer to determine MPGs, trip length, etc.

Thanks for people feedback. However, the trip computer does not have anything to do with the navigation. There is a a seperate button that gives me instant fuel, time in the car, avg mpg, etc. After further testing, I found that the offset between odometers happens almost immediately. Thanks.

Are you saying that your odometer and trip counters are reading differnetly? or that your NAV system and Odometer are reading differnet?
