Unable to access programming mode for remote keyless entry
Hello,
I have a 1994 Accord EX Wagon. I'm trying to program a replacement key fob but I have not been able to access the programming mode.
I'm pretty sure that I have the factory installed keyless entry system. It's listed as a feature on the dealership "sticker" from when the car was purchased.
My existing two-button key fob (part # 72147-SV5-A02) still works, but the unlock micro-switch failed so I bought a replacement. FCC ID on both fobs is KOBUTA1T.
I have tried the "open the door, hold the power unlock up, key five times, etc." and the "key on, press the lock button on the fob, key, off, key on, press the lock button, etc." methods but the locks do not cycle, which indicates that the car is in programming mode.
All of the door locks work correctly, and I have the original factory radio. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Brad

Here's the procedure I found.
Use the following procedure when replacing one or both remote transmitters:
1. Open the driver's door.
2. Press and hold the driver's master door lock switch up in the UNLOCK position.
3. Quickly insert and remove the key from the ignition switch five times, then insert the key the sixth time, and leave it in the ignition switch.
(This routine must be done within 10 seconds.)
All the doors will lock and unlock to indicate that the control unit is in the program mode.
4. Press either button on the replacement transmitter.
All the doors except the driver's door will lock and unlock to indicate that the control unit has accepted the transmitter into its memory. If either transmitter
button is pressed again, all the doors will lock and unlock.
5. Release the driver's master door lock switch.
6. To program a second transmitter, press either button on that transmitter. The doors should lock and unlock as described in step 4.
7. To exit the program mode, close the driver's door or remove the key from the ignition switch.

I tried my spare key to access programming mode and it worked. (using the method PAhonda mentioned above). My regular key is a bit worn compared to the spare. The regular key works fine to start the car, but apparently is too worn to engage the ignition tumblers enough to initiate programming mode.
I'm glad you figured it out and thanks for posting the fix.
A fresher key working is strange, because the 94 keys don't have transponders for security and your worn key still positions the tumblers and turns the ignition switch. The electrical portion of the ignition switch turns when the key turns, so the worn key should behave the same as the fresh key. Up until now, I would have never suggested that.
