better check and make sure the ramps will work for you. On my accord (93) the approach angle on the ramps was too steep so my front bumper hit the middle of theramp before the wheels made it to the bottom of the ramp. You feel prettydumb pushing a set of ramps down the driveway......

get a couple wood planks to drop the angle some. You should only need the planks to be a couple feet long and go a few inches up the ramps. Once there, the car is angled upward, so the bumper should clear.

If I use the front jacking point, my jack only jacks it up high enough to put the jackstands under the jacking points on the sidesat their lowest lever - hardly high enough to get under the car. To solve this problem, I put my floor jack on the frame. If you look under the car and look straight at the jacking point, you should be able to see the frame behind it (towards the middle of the vehicle.)
Soon I'm going to get a set of ramps though. Jacking up both sides is a real PITA just to change the oil.
What you can do in this case is get a chunk of 4x4 wood (like a piece of fence post), put the car on the stands, lower the jack enough to put the 4x4 between the jack and the jack point, then jack the car up higher and adjust the stands. Or if you have enough room you can just start out with the 4x4 in place. As with ANY way you do this, never get under the car while it is only on the jack.

I should add, do this ONLY with a floor jack. NEVER do this with the scissor jack that comes with the car!

Hi Jim...The very first time I went to use my car jack which was two years after I bought the car...it busted as I was putting it up in theair and the car hit the ground..wasn't a good experience!

For me, it was the tire-changing jack on my '72 Datsun (yeah, I'm old). It just swayed sideways because I didn't chock the wheels.

Several years agoa kid in my daughter's high school was working under his pickup truck when the jack collapsed. His mom found his body the next morning.

if im doing something simple like changing the oil ill just jack up the car and slide a couple of spare pressure-treated 1ft 2x8s we have under the wheels. it gives me the extra couple inches I need to be comfortable, but im a pretty thin guy (I used to change the oil without even jacking the car up at all, just slid under it)
We also have some spare trailer rims in the garage i stick under the wheels too sometimes if im doing something a little bigger and want a little more room.
I usually only use jackstands if im doing anything with the tires/brakes/suspension.

My car toppled off the centerstand too once, busted up the centerstand, and Im lucky nothing else broke.

Our shop teacher was telling us a few years back a janitor was using the hydraulic lift after school and had no clue what he was doing when his car fell off of the lift on top of him and killed him. Noone found him till the next morning.
