Just completed a valve adjustment on my 1991 Accord and put everything back together and realized that I had torqued the nut on the tappets to 17ft/lbs. The Chilton stated 14ft/lbs. I believe that the torque wrench just added a quarter turn to the already tightened nut. Should I year it apart and loosen the nuts or just leave it alone?

 

I'm tempted to say it's OK, but I'm going to move this over to General Tech. where more people will probably have some opinions.

I saw your duplicate post and that one says 1998 Accord. Which is it? (But I guess that wouldn't change my answer...)

 

I vote for leaving it alone. 14 vs 17 ft-lb is not a big deal to me and won't cause any harm.

 

Thanks for the advice. Feeling better about leaving it alone. Hated to brake the seal on the new valve cover gasket. By the way it is a 1991 .
