Default Vibration leads to stall

Experienced a problem on drive home tonight. As I go to turn I get a vibration like I am driving on a rumble strip and the engine starts to run ruff, as I keep driving it smooths back out. I think it also occurred when I drove over railroad tracks. As I tuned into the driveway tonight the vibration started and the engine stalled when I stopped. Any ideas what would cause this? Seems to be primarily left front side vibration. 2001 accord 4 cylinder auto trans.

Is/was the CEL on, might check for stored codes either way.

Once the engine is warm, sitting still and no load on the engine what is the idle RPM?

Drove around for a half hour today trying to recreate the problem but couldn't get it to do it again. No check engine light has come on, no codes have been stored, rpms 800 at idle. Could I have a nut loose on one of the pulleys or a problem with a balance shaft? I feel like the vibration occurred first then as a result the engine started running rough and was a result of turning to the left or going over bumps. The vibration went away after traveling a couple hundred feet and the engine smoothed back out. Vibration seemed to be coming from left side front.

I'd take a good look at everything just to be sure. I wouldn't replace anything at the moment, unless you "see something" when inspecting it.

Was engine speed going very low when this happened? A stuck-on torque converter lockup will act like a car w/ clutch remaining engaged and braking to a stop. It will gradually pull engine to a stop w/ shuddering and vibration to accompany.

A transmission DTC should be set (check engine light) if this happens.

good luck

I was slowing down to turn or cross railroad tracks traveling at 20-30 mph.

I asked whether engine speed (rpm) was pulled very low during these engine stoppages?

good luck

I didn't notice that the RPMs dropped noticeably during the initial vibration or once it started to run rough. I have driven it for the past few days and haven't had a repeat. I will try to remember to watch the rpms if it happens again.
