Default VSS Test?

So I am sick and tired of the speedometer/odometer in the money pit being non-functional. it is doing the typical bouncing around and staying at either 20 or 40mph all the time. It has a CEL, but the code is P0141 (that should be covered under the extended warranty - that is not my question) and no other codes (I just had them read Tuesday). I am afraid to take it in for the warranty work without the speedo/odo being functional because i fear they will not believe me that the mileage is accurate within a few thousand miles (the car has 122,xxx on it, and the emissions warranty is extended for 150k or 14 years)
The cruise still works flawlessly, so I know it is probably not the VSS as the cruise should not work and I should get a CEL for it. However, before I go ripping out the cluster and shipping it off to be repaired, I want to be certain it is not the VSS. Is there any way I can test it with my VOM?

Hey JimBlake - I have been trying to find theVSS on hondaautomotiveparts.com to get a diagram of exactly where it is (I know it is on the trans-just not sure exactly where), but I can't find it anywhere. Can you offer any help there?

PS - that Honda Service Bulletin 98-081 also calls for replacement of the VSS if it is faulty so I wouldn't even buy a new one if it was bad.

I would sell you my cluster cheap, but it reads 233k... probably not good for warranty work lol. You could check resistance at the speedo and at the VSS...

It is likely the speedometer. I attached a pic of the 95 v6 tranny.

Thanks for the pic! Yeah I am 99% sure its the speedo. But I am a tightwad, so I want to be as close to 100% sure as possible haha.
