Default Vtec

I have a 94 Accord EX (F22b) when does VTEC kick in, and during racing when should I shift to get the perfect shift. A friend told me there is something people can get that lights green when to shift. If this is true is it worth buying and how much is it?

The F22 has a mid range vtec that is meant more for gas mileage than power and is less noticeable like in the b18s and H22s.

The shift lights are just set to come on at a certain RPM(mainly redline) so its more obvious when to shift and

You won't feel vtec kick in. It will turn on between 2300 and 3200 rpm.

A good shift would be when you get towards the end of the power range of the gear you are in. It will probably be around 5K rpm. I would say to try to get a feel for it.

your vtec will most likely kick in at 3500 rpm. it wont kick in until your car is warmed up though. A good spot to shift with any vtec motor is a point where your going to stay in vtec when you shift up. your motor will stop making power at 6100 rpm. from the factory your motor is rated at something like 145hp at 5800rpm. If your looking to race, dont race from a dig, put the car in 2nd, get to 40mph then go FT to 6k then shift.

My best time is a 14.61 at KCRI. Im just saying that 2nd gear 40 roll is a sweet spot for hondas
