VTEC: Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control and just because it's a vtec doesn't mean it's 16 valve I don't believe, it simply means that there is a change that the engine goes through in order to give you a "power band" of sorts and keep the power from leveling out/dropping off at higher rpm's
