Default Weird Air Conditioning Problem

My 96 Accord's Air Conditioning went out all of a sudden. One day it was working, the next day it wasn't.

I tested the freon levels and the gauge showed that it was super low when the AC was on, and then overly full when I turned the AC off. I checked the compressor as well and it is coming on and spinning freely.

Is this normal? Or is there a different problem other than freon.

Thanks

Hi member

When you say it went out all of a sudden, does that mean it was on and running and then it like turned off and quit working. ?

"Super low" doesn't provide much info. What was pressure approximately?

Low side only, no high side gauge?

Is problem just poor cooling, blower not running, compressor not engaging (sounds like it is)?

good luck

Yes the compressor is working and it is blowing but it blows hot air.

I don't remember exactly what the readings were because I used a gauge from advanced auto parts.

And I think it was low side only. Do I need to get more info to help diagnose the problem?

How rapidly is compressor cycling? 5, 10, 20 secs?

Is the big hose at the firewall cold? It should be very cold.

good luck
