Can someone help me figure out the right trunk lock assembly part number for a 2000 Honda Accord EX 4 door sedan 2.3L? I can't figure out whether it is a 2-wire, 3 wire, or 5 wire. There are some places with 2 wires coming out, 3 wires coming out and 5 wires coming out! I'm guessing it is a powered latch because there is a button on the remote key to open the trunk.

Also- I don't know what part to order because the actual latch part looks solid, but the piece in the photo has detached from it and the plastic is broken

Go by the electrical connector, so it's a 5 wire.

Sites like hondapartsnow.com will let you ever the VIN, so you can find the right OEM part number for your car. Then do a Google search of the part number to look at pictures just to be sure.

 

I tried that and was suggested https://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuin...1-s84-a21.html which looks like a 3 wire, not 5 wire. This is why I'm confused.

Using your VIN at hondapartsonline.net, looks like the OEM part number is 74866-S84-A01.

I haven't seen too many of these fail on this site, so you may want to take that part to a u-pull-it junkyard or look at 2000 EX sedans being parted out on facebook marketplace to find one. Then you'll know the connector will fit. Your local dealer may have an online ordering site as well.

I just inherited this car from my mother. My 2000 Honda Accord EX has 81,000km. The inside is immaculate but the outer body has some dents and mild rust. I was wondering if you have any advice on whether it is worth keeping such an old car or if it will present problems because of its age. A mechanic looked at it briefly and told me that it's a great car with low mileage and I should keep it because they rarely make cars this solid anymore. I care about economics and safety.

I've repaired the following issues on it:
leaking AC with AC leak seal gas ( don't know how long that will last)
replaced brake pads and rotors
changed oil once a year

Current issues:
4 tires need to be replaced as the treads are almost gone.
rust spots underneath and on dents on body.
SRS light is on.
Engine light warning- something about gas cap.
I can't switch from Park to Drive without putting a key into the hole next to the lever. But I've been driving like this for 3 years already.

You might want to scan the car for codes to see what kind of error messages are stored in the PCM.

Keeping vs selling the car is a personal choice. You can figure out the monthly payment for a replacement vechicle, then work out the cost of necessary and/or cosmetic repairs for the 2000 accord. Compare the two costs to figure out your best course of action.

I'm not sure of a cheap Chinese knockoff for a 24 year old car, but you may be able to find one. The junkyard might be your best bet for a cheap part.
Tires wear out and are important, so you'll want to get them fixed.
See if the rust spots are just surface rust or rotted metal. If surface rust underneat, use a wire brush or some abrasive to remove the rust and spray with a rust converter.
