Default What is this? & Various Car questions

Hello, I got a 98 accord LX in May 2007.

I noticed that on the driver's side there is this weird switch/button thing.

I've been doing research for the past couple of days trying to figure out what it is!

Can someone tell me what this is for?

sorry picture is a bit huge to post here

It's an aftermarket switch of some sort.... It almost looks like it may have been use for some under the dash lights... Unless the car was raced and it's a fuel cut off but I doubt that... have you traced the wire to see where it goes? I assume nothing happens when you flip the switch? did the add a switch to the cigarette lighter for some reason?

When I turn the switch on on, I don't notice a change in anything. Nothing really happens. I traced it, and it leads to like the middle near the car radio. I tried taking a picture but it's a bit complicated. There is no switch added to the cigg lighter.

I always have some other questions if you don't mind answering.

While tracing the wire, I found this blinking red light.

What is this for? I don't think my car came with alarm system.

My other question is... What should I do if I found my engine oil cap broken? I think the pieces fell inside the compartment.

My last oil change was with Wal-Mart. I had a really bad experience with them. They filled my car with too much oil so my car smoked every time I accelerated, big clouds of smoke would bust out of my muffler. I took it back to them and they drained it and filled it up with the right amount of oil.

I decided from that experience I would learn how to change the oil myself.

Yesterday, I changed my oil and found that my cap easily came out with a little twist. It turned out to be broken.

I'm just hoping the little pieces doesn't ruin my engine. I really don't know what to do. I just went to the store and bought a new cap.

Thank you very much for reading and helping

it may be ok but just to be certain it doesn't clog any oil passages or anything I'd probably pull the valve cover and see if you can find any of the pieces.... they probably broke it when they put it on by overtightening it.... I will never use wal-mart for any car work... WAY to many stories from there...

oh and speaking of the switch/light it may have had an aftermarket system installed, a car alarm/disabler and that switch could have been a power cut off switch...

I would IMMEDIATELY remove the valve cover & get the broken pieces out of there. Then change oil & filter.
