wierd electrical problem

Default wierd electrical problem

Hello...i have a 99 accord. heres my problem. When my headlights are on. My brakelights stay on all the time.also the brake lamp light in the dash is lit. But when headlights are off everything seems to work fine..has anyone came across this problem. Really need some help with this one

Some of the bulbs in the rear lamp clusters are 2-filament bulbs. If they're installed backwards, the brake-light filament is connected to the headlight circuit. And the taillamp filament is connected to the brakelight circuit.

Thanks for info. Ill look into that. Is it easy to install bulbs backward..this may be a dumb question. But how do i know if they are installed backwards..new to this car..my son bought it not too long ago..and never realized what was goin on

The bayonet-base bulbs have 2 stubby little posts sticking out the side, to engage the socket. On 2-filament bulbs, those 2 posts are a different heights above the bottom. It's possible to put em in backwards by forcing it a bit.

Another possibility...
The 2-filament bulbs have 2 contact bumps on the base. With age & heat, those bumps might have become kinda mashed down, and rarely, they mash into each other so they make contact with both circuits.
