I have a 91 Accord that has developed a significant rain leak in the drivers side door/window. Weather stripping can get rather pricey. What is the best way to track down where it is leaking from? This will be my daily driver and I would like to fix it up on the cheap.

 

Where is the water leaking to? Is the water building up inside of the door?

If the car has a sunroof, you may have some clogged drains.

 

In moderate to heavy rain, it drips from near the seat belt track just below where the A pillar turns downward. I do have a sunroof, but am not aware of any leaks there.

 

There are drains for the sunroof. If the drain gets clogged, then the water can pool up there and get into the car.

The drain tubes are 3, 4, and 6.

I took the trim off the inside of the door frame and also took off the wind deflector on the sunroof. After running water in different areas with a garden hose, I think it is actually leaking in the top drivers side of the windshield. The water drips from the inside of the door frame from one of the rectangular holes right where the a pillar comes down when water is sprayed on the top corner of the windshield on the drivers side. Upon inspection, the rubber gasket behind the chrome trim on the windshield in the corner has dried and shrunken.

Is there a type of sealant or silicone I can use to fill this on the cheap? Or should I look into getting the windshield resealed instead?

 

Well, if you have had the windshield replaced they usually offer a warranty.

If not, I'd try sealing it with silicone, designed for for this----not the gasket stuff.
