Default wow, I don't get it? ignition cylinder

Hey all, My names ed and I'm new here. I have a terrible issue with my 98 accord ex. Its a 4clyengine. My problem is my dad lost all the keys for it and i couldn't get the car to start. I have the remote and thats about it. So, i ordered another ignition cyclinder off ebay and installed it. Now the car doesn't want to turn on??? I heard that the key doesn't have a chip, but you guys would know more than me. Any help would reallly be great! thanks-ed

it has a chip. it needs to be programmed at the dealer.

you could have just gone to the dealer and hada new key cut for the original ignition switch too...now the vin doesn't match the ignition switch. make sure you never lose the new key, or keep the old ign. switch.

When I was trying to get a spare key they couldn't cut a key that would fit right. They told me that it was due to wear of the ignition cylinder and wanted some 400 to put a new cylinder and reprogram keys . Maybe what you did wasn't so bad. Just get it programmed. I think the key has some immobilizer thingy.

I don't know if it started even earlier, but '98 definitely had an immobilizer.
