Default Best mileage mods to exhaust for '91?

Lots of stuff on EBay cheap. No emissions in my area. Tank-to-tank gas mileage is up to about 30.6 now. Some battery questions are delaying my electric conversion.

So - strictly for highway mpg at 65-80 (manual trans), what the best (if any) exhaust mod? Any other obvious areas to address?

I'll have to look - where? Door sticker? Under the hood somewhere? It's an '91 EX coupe.

looks liek that. It's under your dizzy and where the engine and trans meet. You can clearly see it if you pop your hood.

But yours will say f22a1/f22a4/f22a6 unlike my h22a4 block.

Checked the block code - seems I have an F22A4. Given that, any exhaust mods indicated? Looks like a whole Megan system on EBay's less than $300 delivered.

As a side note, the car was getting hard to shift; I found the transaxle fluid was very low - I put in more than a quart Sunday (hard to estimate; ~seven pump-oiler bottles full!

Car shifts great now, no longer an issue getting into 3rd and 5th.

But - lots of oil all around on the transaxle top and bottom - any traditional places to look for leaks?

Thanks -

Forrestt

your f22a4 stock header is better than the megan header. Megan isn’t all the great. You can find a better cat back for cheaper than that. The f22a4 header is better than 90% of the headers out on the market. If I had my old dyno charts Id post them and show you. I have owned DC and megan for my f22a and my OEM header out preformed better.
For your exhaust I would go to a local exhaust shop and have them make you a MANDREAL bent 2.25' exhaust.
Also another few OEM mods to gain you few hp...

f22a6 cam shaft and ECU OR for more power snag a p12 from a prelude f22a
f22a6 intake manifold OR h23 intake manifold. The h23 has a bigger TB and longer runners.

I'll just make up an exhaust myself from mandrel-bent "U"s from Summit, and pick up just behind the factory flex connection, I guess. Muffler recommendation? Why 2.25" rather than 2"?

I did build these these converging / diverging collectors and muffler / tailpipes on this 180° set (the primaries are from a set of Schoenfield circle-track headers) on my V8 play-car, and sent them to JetHot for coating -

the stock exhaust it a little under 2' if I’m not mistaken...2' would be little too small for the engines liking in the performance aspect. The 2.25' is your best bet. The muffler is all on you. It depends on what type of sound you like. The flow master 40 series sounds really goods. If you want a OEM honda muffler the RSX Type S muffler is a good choice too.

Okay - so my '91 factory "header" is the best choice. I've welded-up complete exhausts before, so I went to the Summit catalog, figured a couple of J bends and straight pieces of 2-1/2" tubing, some flanges, coupla' bolts, a straight-through muffler; tax; driving to McDonough GA to save the shipping, carry the 2, lets see, $168 for the pieces to go from the flex coupler to the rear bumper (eliminate the cat).

Coupla' hours of my time; make some brackets from 1/2" rod . . .

Thought I'd better check EBay - got this whole thing in SS for $108 delivered to my door; cat test pipe with bolts and flanges and gaskets to come Monday for $19.

Lots easier, and a good bit cheaper!
