So what I've gathered is that the short ram creates less power,
particularly from a stop because it doesn't get air that's as cold.
However it also has better throttle response?
So on a 98 Accord LX (5spd manual, 4 cyl) where my biggest problem right now
is getting off the line, to me is seems like the quicker response is the better
option despite the fact that the SRI makes less power. Am I looking at this wrong?

 

It has better throttle response because the pipe is shorter (doh :P).
Shorter the pipe, the quicker the air reaches the engine. At cruising speeds,
it doesn't matter. For better response, look into weight reduction (),
SRI would be ok, camgears, flywheels, all that good internal work stuffs.

i didnt know about the whole water thing, im in oregon, in rains buckets, and buckets, how much water are we talking about getting in there? and some one mentioned a by pass?

 

Good Post!!! Since Im up here in NW, I wouldn't want to risk getting rain into my engine so I went wih SRI it's working out great for me case but I woulnd't mind having CAI in the summer haha

 

I was reading this thread, but I didn't find fully clear answer to a question I was thinking about:

Does it matter what kind of intake you buy? What I mean is, I want a short ram for my Accord, but I'm not sure if I ought to buy a name brand or not. I'm not new to modifying cars, but I am new to not having hand-me-down namebrand parts on the cheap. So my question is, is there any major difference between something like an AEM intake and a cheapy off ebay? I'm worried that if I buy a cheap-o intake off ebay, the piping wont be engineered properly and I'll be having a lot of air turbulence, as opposed to a professionally built AEM. I'm mostly looking for a bit of throttle response and MOSTLY an increase in gas mileage.

I'd go with a CAI, but I'm not interested in installing it, not to mention, Colorado tends to get snow. Though I've had a CAI in my car prior to my last, I was always worried about driving in the snow and getting water in my motor.

you can buy a cheap sri just make sure you replace the cone filter with a k&n filter.

 

sorry to do this again, but would the better throttle response on a short ram balance out the fact that it's hot air off the line? and cold air of the line with a CAI would be balanced out with shorter throttle response. so what is the best to go with based on people's experiences rather than their sophisticated look on it?
