well i have a 2003 Honda Accord EX 2.4L
im wondering if it is possible to just take out the stock air box
and replace it with a K&N performance Air filter..

so im just wondering if it's possible and would i gain any hp from it?

It could be done, just have to make sure the diameter on the filter is bigger than the diameter on tubing to the airbox. What I would do if I were you is: buy a cheap ebay intake $20-30 then put a K&N filter on that

 

lol, in my v6, i took out the stock airbox and stuck a spectra filter over the hole, lol it works and sounds great
most you would get is like 8hp, which you will not even fee, bu the sound is very deep and throaty(odd, its a honda)
