Default O2 Sensor Trouble

I have a megan racing header and silverline exhaust. I had a leak in my exhaust that was recently repaired (sensor in bank 2 was replaced at this time). It burned out my O2 sensor (bank 1). I replaced the sensor, cleared the code, and the next day the check engine light came back on. The code was for the sensor in bank 1. I am not sure what else to do at this point. I have cleared the code (again) to see if it will return. I have been fighting this exhaust issue for months now...

In 1996, even the V-6 has no bank-2 sensors.

Primary sensor is before the cat, secondary sensor is in the cat. No dual exhaust. No bank-2.

What code? First time & now? OBD-2 has about 4 different codes for each sensor. Even if you do the OBD-1 method (flashing CEL) you still have the sensor vs. preheater for each sensor so there's at least 4 different codes.

The code is p0420 and i have a 1996 accord 4 cyl lx. I have replaced the sensor twice only to have the same problem. Could it be the converter itself and not the sensors??

Yes it could. P0420 is actually a code for the cat, not for the sensors. Thing is, the sensors are the only way the ECU "knows" about a bad cat, so most people hope that it's a sensor problem.

Since you're not getting any high, low, or sluggish errors for the sensors, that also suggests the sensors are OK.

I figured the converter was the culprit. Is there any store online that can be recommended for a good performance converter at a decent price?

I have another question before my cat install on wednesday. Will I have to replace my sensors (again!!) I just want to know if I should be looking out for anything else when it comes to my exhaust after the cat has been replaced....

Your sensor should be usable on the new cat. That is, if the mechanic doesn't break it while removing...
