well your stock intake has two extra chambers that the 98 didnt...... i would look and see if any of those chambers are connected to any rubber hoses, its refered to as the air cleaner system...... which just looks like an overly elaborate air baffling system..... so i would check that.... im surprised no one else has chimed in yet...... unless coolant runs through any of those chambers i would see no reason to drain coolant

yeah, only cause i unpluged the map sensor to get the stock intake off, and i turned on the car forgetting to plug it back in lol

 

I had to install a hose like that when I did my V2. I didn't drain any coolant though. I just undid the hose clamps and added the hose. I foget the purpose of doing this, but it had something to do with a vacuum line and coolant line being connected together on a single metal dual line piece. I can't really explain it, so sorry if I confuse you. If you are worried about air in the cooling system, their is a bleed valve located near the thermo housing. You can crank it up and run it untill straight coolant comes out with no air bubbles. I highly doubt you will get any air in the system though.

 

yeah, but its not really a vac hose, its just excess gas pushing through the corner of the valve cover and it goes into intake manifold, you may stabilize youre fuel economy with that but it doesnt really change much because theres a secondary valve to the right of that one which pushes gas vapors right into the intake manifold and prevents from going back into the valve cover when the throttle is closed i believe

it also has to do with engine reliablity be removing any excess vapors from the valve area its reducing the wear on it that bubbles of air and what not cause on a system thats lubricated

 

Well thanks for all your help Marbo! I just installed it and it was very easy! There was only one hose that I had to hook up to the sri. It sounds great, looks great, and seems to rev a little higher maybe? Im not sure, ill have to drive it more! But again, thanks for everyones help!

Oh yeah, I did not remove the baffle below the stock air box in the fender well. On teh intructions it said it was necessary to remove a resonator inside the fender well. Hope thats ok!

 

you dont have to, at the very least its will act as a buffer if anything ever hits that spot, but revs a little higher? idle or max rpm? if you have an auto the shift points are set by the sensors but in the end it has a set rev limiter so it wont go any higher then that. But it can get closer to that point cause it can pull in more air now. But gratz on your upgrade ^_^

 

I think it idles a smidge higher...but then maybe im just now noticing it? Well this summer I will be getting some OBX headers, OBX plugs and wires (is OBX an ok brand?). Most likely along with an Apexi WS2 exhaust...so hopefully my gas mileage will go up quite a bit

 

Screw OBX get NGK and it will be better all around.... or Nology Hotwires if you can afford them...
