1989 Accord Sei 2 door
I'm a new member! I have a one owner 1989 Accord Sei 2 door and I just turned 60,000 original miles. I use the car every year and generally make 1,000 to 2,000 miles annually. Tires have been my biggest problem as they seem to deteriorate much faster than the miles I put on them. It's funny as finding 14" rim times is not as easy as it used to be! I just had to almost special order a pair.
I have had zero problems with this vehicle since '89. It starts each time, every time. If I put it up for a few months I have to admit to using a little fuel saver additive. But it's never sat longer than a few months without getting some street time. It's never seen winter or snow or salted roads. I have no indications of any body rust or damage. Since it's inside much of the year the interior is still very, very new. Both my son and daughter learned how to drive using this car and they love it too.
In terms of issues: I had to repair the muffler as the pipe rusted out right at the muffler. It was a little "full throated" in terms of sound until I got that fixed. Oh, and the darn electric antenna got broken off. I need to find out how much of an issue it is to replace that unit.
Finally, just recently I started hearing a "clicking" sound when turning left or right, generally much more evident and pronounced at low speeds. I'm told there are covers over the joints connecting the wheels to the drivetrain. If these deteriorate the lube goes bad. I'm looking to get this fixed this week.
Anyway, let me know if you enjoy an '89 also. We can trade notes.
Thanks,
Mark
