Default 1996 Honda Accord

Hey, I’m new here and to forums so I am so sorry if I’m posting in the wrong spot or doing anything agains the rules. I’m trying to learn.

i have a 1996 Honda Accord EX 5 speed. it has the 2.2L F22B1 (Vtec) it keeps throwing a P1381 code which is “Cylinder Position Sensor Intermittent interruption” I’ve replaced the plugs, wires, valve cover gasket and the distributor. Has 160,000 miles on it.

Right now I can go out and start it up and it runs perfectly fine. When I clear the CEL code and try and start it the thing acts like the timing is off it’ll run really rough for 3-4 seconds then the CEL comes back on and it runs perfectly fine. Normally I wouldn’t care and i would just keep driving it and I will in this case also *** long as I know I’m not doing any damage to anything. I’m stumped. I have no clue what it could be. Thanks for any help in advance. I appreciate you all.

I replaced my alternator today and apparently solved the issue. Someone in another thread mentioned that when he unplugged the alternator the car was easier to start. Mine ('96 F22B2 manual) was taking three tries to start then finally wouldn't start at all, but would start after a couple of tries with the alternator unplugged. I hated to say adios to my 29 yo original alternator: the bearings were still good and battery charging and lights were fine, but a rebuild kit was as expensive as a new generic unit. Thanks to all contributing to the knowledge base!
