Default 2014 Accord v4 need valve adjustment?

Hello -
1. Does the 2014 Accord v4 need valve adjustment? My car has 107K. The dealer said it needs spark plugs and valve adjustment. I called my local trusted ASE mechanic. He said, he rarely saw Accords needing adjustment, he said he can do inspect.
2. The dealer quotes:
$249 for v4 spark plug replacement
$199 for valve adjustment
I thought it is a rip-off.

Any advice?

Sorry, there is no such a thing as a 2014 Accord V4, your options are, 2014 Accord V6 or 2014 Accord I4.

Regardless of engine, ask your dealership to explain, in writing, why they are recommending a valve adjustment when such a service is not listed in the required maintenance section of your Owner's Manual.

Thanks, for correcting. I was thinking of 4 cylinders. :-) The dealer did not write up "reason" for valve adjustment recommendation, however, on the phone, he said it is done when spark plugs are replaced.

Thanks for the quick reply. My bad, it is 4 cylinder Accord. The dealer said the valve adjustment is done as part of the spark plug replacement service. In the written quote, the "reason" section was blank. I uploaded the image, I guess it takes time for the moderator to approve the image.

Hey @KrisBo, I haven't looked at the Owner's Manual for a 2014 Accord, but I'd bet dollars to donuts it does NOT call for a valve adjustment when the spark plugs are replace. That said, there may well be a directive to "Inspect valve clearance"; not even remotely the same thing. If you want to mess with the dealer, ask them to show you in published Honda documentation where it says a valve adjustment is "due" as part of the 100,000 mile service.

@shipo you are right, the owner's manual says "Inspect valve Clearance" for the service minders. Thanks for your help with this.

That is a waist of money. I had mine done at 150k since I was at the dealership and they messed up on the exhaust side. Had them redo it and same thing so I got my money back. I had to go home and do it myself. The only reason why I had it done is because I had a slight tick that was getting on my nerves and was being lazy. In the manual it only states to check never adjust. Unless you hear bad ticking from the engine then do not worry about it.

Had mine on my R18 Civic adjusted every 100k. Usually only a few were out of whack. They do the #4 service of adjust the valves and replace gasket as well as plugs. I had it done 4 times as I had 375000 miles and usually it was minimal adjustments needed. They kinda clatter really bad when out of place and mileage tanks.
Now my 2017 Accord I will follow the same measures and likely get past 350,000 Miles again.
