Default 7th gen Accord or 8th gen Civic?

EDIT: Typo, I meant 8th gen Accord vs 8th gen Civic

Hey everyone, this is my first post, so hello! I've spent some time looking around and asking on various brand-specific forums asking for advice, but it seems like I've cut down the companies to Honda and Toyota for a few reasons. Anyways, my top three choices for Honda would be the Fit, Civic or Accord. Since the Civic and Accord are more similar than the fit, I'm having trouble deciding which one of the two I should rule out.

As far as the Accord goes, it is a much nicer car (or so I've heard) features-wise. On the other hand though, the Civic gets better mileage.

I know this is an Accord forum and I'm expecting a bit of a bias, so don't worry about totally pushing one way or another.

tl;dr- I'd like to hear why I should get a 8th Accord over an 8th Civic, or why not.

Well thats up to you really. I would test drive them both to see which you really like. As for price the accord will always be more expensive for the same options but it can get some options the civic cant have. The accord is a nicer car compared to the civic but if you are worried about money then the civic gets better mpg and is cheaper to begin with. Do you have any specific models you want to know about? As for toyota, I have nothing against them, my grandparents have had two camry's since i was born and each went for over 250000 miles without major repairs. They now have a matrix which is like the corolla and its not bad but not fun to drive like a civic and it seems to have a hard ride compared to a civic.

Thanks for the reply. I somehow forgot to mention a major point that I would be buying the Accord used (2008), so it might even end up being cheaper than a new Civic. I've seen many for 16k and after Christmas I think it could be haggled down to 15k.

Used Accord = part of warranty has already been used up.

Accord = heavier, smoother, larger
Accord = probably better crash protection, even 2-years old.

Civic = lighter, more nimble, smaller
Civic = maybe not enough room in backseat, trunk???
Civic = cheaper because warranty will carry out farther (because it's new)
Civic Si = pretty fast & good handling

Comfort is completely subjective. I originally wanted to say Accord is more comfortable, but I find the opposite. Daughters have 2007 Civic coupes and I love the seats. Side bolsters are much deeper and position of the steering wheel works better for me.

They're such different cars that they really don't compete against EACH OTHER. I for one am not gonna bad-mouth a Civic just point out that it's very different.
