97 accord water temp gauge
I have a 1997 Accord LX, 5spd, f22b2 with 235k.
The other day after work my buddy and I were having “a friendly competition” on the way home. Needless to say I was really giving it some throttle. It was about 85 degrees out. Out of nowhere my coolant temp gauge shot straight up to red hot and all my dash lights went out as did my tachometer. The motor was still running, but I quickly shut it off. I turned it back on and drove it home on the way home it randomly stalled out about 3 times within 10 mins. As I watched the gauge on the way home it was moving up and down in the red. I got home and checked everything and it all seemed to be alright. I checked the temperatures and my fans are coming on at 199F like they’re supposed to. My issue is that the needle will be between the middle and hot and only be at 183F. I replaced the tachometer and it didn’t fix anything. I’m the past month I’ve replaced the upper and lower rad hoses, The hose under the dizzy, the cap, overflow, thermostat, both fan switches, temp sensor, temp sender, fresh coolant and ALL of the air is purged out. I even replaced the ELD. Im completely lost on what could be going on to make the gauge go crazy like this. Another thing to note is the car could read that it’s “overheating” on the gauge and if I shut the car down and turn it immediately back on the temp gauge sits where it is supposed to, right under halfway. Any insight would be great because I am stumped.
