Another new (old) guy, '91 Accord with 53k

Hello everyone, I currently am driving a '91 Accord with only 53k miles. I have owned Acura Legends in the past, and have gotten used to the stock performance and handling that was pretty good, but I am now enjoying the smaller, lighter ride of the Accord. (Is there a place on the forums for older Accords?).
Basically, I am wanting to moderately improve the handling (upgrade struts?) of the accord but don't want to spend much $'s. I want a controlled, well damped ride, but I have 4 small children and I want it to be comfortable for everyday use (not harsh, just firm cornering and quick, accurate lane changes). I'm sure this is a basic question and I will be happy to look at FAQ's if that is the best way to start. I would appreciate advice from those who are enthusiasts but understand that not everyone wants to drop their ride.
I am about to replace the stock, old, hard 18570R14 tires with Bridgestone G009 195 60 R14's. This is a done deal, so please don't tell me that I made a mistake, even if I did. I don't have $'s to put larger wheels and tires on it. The tires will be improvement enough, even though I guess the almost 1" smaller diameter tire will mess up the speedo by ~5% ??
Okay, sorry, I didn't intend to write a novella on my first post, and I'm sure that you young guys don't want to hear about issues from a (eek) 40+ year old!! Just remember, you will be here somedayon.
Thanks for making it this far. Appreciate comments from those who know where I'm coming from.

hello sir,
welcome, im 40, with a family, just started upgrading my car!!! so age is not a factor. good or bad, we do what do, regardless of age!!
From what i have seen on these forums there is a place for eveyone, their age and the age of their car!!!
I only shopped around for adjustable coilover kits, so i can't rally recommend anything in
standard shock area, maybe you want to get some stiffer springs and just replace shocks with oem replacement parts. im sure some other members will chime in with good info for you.
on the speedo isssue check out the tires and wheels threads, somewhere in there is a very good calculator that will tell you how a tire size change will affect the dial.
good luck
